- I grew up in New Jersey but have lived in Louisiana for five years now. Back when Bush first became president, I still had no idea what I wanted to do in life, but after nearly eight years of his abuses of power and contempt for the Constitution, I have made up my mind to apply to law school. He's given me a negative motivation--an example of what I want to fight against as a lawyer.
But now as we approach the end of this dreadful administration, I'm looking at Senator Obama not only as the person I profoundly hope will be the next President, but also as a source of positive motivation for my own goals; a great example of what you can do when you decide to fight FOR something.
That's not the only reason why I decided to support Sen. Obama--the main reasons are his political courage in opposing the war before it started, and the fact that he's the only presidential candidate I've ever heard talking about how we all have a stake in each other's well-being: "we are our brother’s keeper". That's something I've always believed in, and it's a message our country has never needed more.
